On Monday, Nick Strachan joined a group of guests for a classic double-decker bus tour of new developments in London’s financial district, led by Peter Murray OBE and Lord Peter Hendy, the new Minister of State for Rail.

Whilst the journey offered a reflection of the past, visiting classic buildings such as the Bank of England & the Royal Exchange, the tour focused on the evolving built landscape, including new commercial redevelopments in Aldgate and the Square Mile. Discussion zoned in on the need to sustainably repurpose late 20th century office buildings, including the new HSBC headquarters on Newgate Street facing St Paul’s- the creative reuse of this buildings will see HSBC vacate their Canary Wharf tower and return to the City of London.

The evening ended with drinks and discussion on the top of Landsec’s new Myo St Paul’s development, offering fine views across the changing skyline and a moment to reflect on all the buildings considered during the tour and London’s ongoing commitment to blending tradition with progress.

This memorable evening was more than just a guided bus ride; it was a reminder of the City’s enduring spirit and offered a moment to reflect on the transformative power of thoughtful urban planning and building design.
